Finding information for an assignment or other research projects could be a daunting task. The first place to try and find information will be the library. We subscribe to many databases on which you can try and find information, but productive library research requires more than just sitting down at a computer terminal and typing in searches. It requires you to apply some basic critical thinking skills.
This tutorial will outline and give you practice in some of those skills. Mastering these will give you a head start in the work you will be doing throughout your study career at this or any other university.
When you finish this tutorial you should be able to recognise the basic features of electronic databases and know how to construct the best searches for your topic.
